I relate to him so much. Having PTSD is debilitating . I've had it since I was a child but not to the extent that he has it. I felt like there was something wrong with me when I couldn't integrate back into society after the traumas happened. A lot of people dont understand that when you have PTSD you're living in constant fight, flight or freeze mode. You're body does not recognise that you are no longer in danger. You are constantly reliving your trauma (love that you mentioned that trauma doesn't just come from violence) as though it is currently happening again, and again, and again. You feel those sensations as though it's the first time. It's like your mind and body are disconnected (which is usually the case ) but they don't even know. There are different "treatments" that can be done to manage PTSD but the most important thing is to get your mind connected to your body again. To get them both to understand that we are no longer in the past and we are safe. It sounds simple but it's extremely complicated and that is why you need good health care providers who not only have a deep understanding of PTSD and CPTSD (complex PTSD) but who also understand that their way of 'treating" PTSD is not the only correct way and they really need to have an open mind. (I am not a medical professional just a person who's life has been stolen by PTSD from childhood and has done a lot of research ). I'm gonna close off by saying if anyone reading this thinks they have PTSD or CPTSD please be careful when you choose health care providers and if you are a person of color particularly black or passing as black and you get a Schizophrenia diagnosis please get a second or third opinion(if you can afford it) . It's unfortunate but because of racial biases doctors disproportionately misdiagnose black people, particularly black men with schizophrenia all the time. ❤️I hope you get the help that you need.😊

I'm grateful for this episode, what I've grown to learn about black people is we are so nonchalant about our mental health issues. Thank you Garth for being vulnerable with us. ❤

Growing up I used to love Motswako (with Penny Lebyane as the host). I was very young and could not fully comprehend some of the issues which they discussed but I am eternally grateful to have been exposed to the show. It helped shape my self esteem and emotional standing as a young lady (teenagehood) in those troublesome years. I have indulged innumerable episodes of TCC and everytime I do watch, even a RUclips short, I am mind blown. The issues discussed, are ones I always wanted to tackle but lacked the appropriate diction to do to. And the emotional intelligence to handle the matter holistically. I am learning to do so in my mid-twenties and such a show has helped me exponentially. I am grateful. I truly do wish this was on an accesible television platform such as SABC one. I need my nephews and baby cousins to watch this and grasp the same amount of social awareness that I did at a young age.

When we know better, we do better. The onus is now on you to pay it forward.

I'm so proud of Garth for pushing through the hardship of illness. I was ill a couple of years ago and there's nothing more scary than feeling like you have no idea whats going on with your own body. You feel so out of control and helpless. Only God could have given him strength and grace. Only God!

I really needed this episode. I saw something on TikTok which disturbed me. I think I have a phobia of that thing. I can’t stop thinking about it. When I close my eyes that’s all I see my body aches each time I think about it, it has made life so difficult. I’ve stopped using socials because it’s such a trigger. So watching this has given me assurance that it gets better. ❤

Thank you for your vulnerability Garth. Being a survivor of traumatic experiences is wild... I couldn't help but relate this to what Lira went through. It's unbelievable.
I'll never fully understand the will to live.
